Gabo Island is rich in cultural history, contains significant flora and fauna and has stunning landscapes with magnificent views of Croajingolong National Park, including the Cape Howe Wilderness Zone.

It covers an area of approximately 154 hectares and features the only operating island lighthouse in Victoria. The lighthouse was constructed from 1858 to 1862 using the distinctive pink granite found on the island. Tours of the magnificent 47m high structure are available, with spectacular views from the top.

Gabo Island offers a unique accommodation experience in the Assistant Light Keeper’s residence, featuring three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, laundry and bathroom with all linen provided. Bookings are required for a minimum of two nights and it caters for up to eight people. All provisions must be taken to the island.

Access to and from the island is largely weather dependent so delays in arrivals or departures are occasionally experienced. These delays may last for a number of days; therefore it is strongly recommended that you take enough food supplies and personal medication to deal with such contingencies.

Cancellation Policy

30 days prior 50% cancellation fee. Less than 30 days prior 100% cancellation fee. No Transfers.

During periods where minimum night bookings are required no refund will be given for part of the booking period. No Transfers

Booking amendments will attract a $10 processing fee.

School Group Bookings and Payments:
- Advance booking of accommodation requires a 20% non-refundable deposit of the full booking amount within 14 days with the balance of fees due 30 days prior to arrival date.
- For all bookings made within 30 days of arrival full payment is required at time of booking.
- All Bookings and payments are non-transferable.

School Group Cancellations :
- - 30 days or more notice - 20% cancellation fee of the booking amount per night.
- 7 – 30 days prior 25% cancellation fee of the booking amount per night.
- 1 – 6 days prior 50% cancellation fee of the booking amount per night.

Refunds
- Full refunds apply if as a result of an emergency or other exceptional circumstance.
- Refunds do not apply if you are unable to access Gabo Island due to inclement weather.
- Refund applications not accepted more than 60 days after arrival date.

Travel Insurance
- Parks Victoria highly recommends visitors to cover for weather delays cancellation fees personal accident loss of baggage and liability.
The residence will be available for occupancy from 2 pm on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 10 am on the day of departure to allow time to clean and prepare for the next guests.

All rubbish must be taken off the Island with you so consider cans in lieu of bottles transport food in containers rather than original packaging.

Directions

Gabo Island is located approximately 14 km from Mallacoota at the eastern tip of Victoria, close to the border of New South Wales, and 500 metres off the wilderness coast of Croajingolong National Park. Access to and from Gabo Island is by chartered boat and is largely weather dependant. Due to airstrip limitations only authorised aircraft are permitted to land.

Lighthouse Reserve

Accommodation on Gabo Island is in the assistant light keepers residence.

- It has 3 bedrooms which can accommodate up to eight people.

- Bedroom 1has a double bed.

- Bedroom 2 has 2 sets of double bunks.

- Bedroom 3 has 2 single beds.

- Doonas, pillows, sheets and towels are provided.

- The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge/freezer, a 4 burner gas stove with an oven, microwave, saucepans, crockery, cutlery, glasses/wine glasses, tea towels and dishwashing liquid.

- There is also a BBQ outside.

- The bathroom has a shower/bath, a wash basin and a toilet with toilet paper provided.

- The laundry has an automatic washing machine and dryer, with laundry detergent supplied.

- There is a gas heater located in the dining area.

- There is a cd player, some games and puzzles but no television (by conscious decision).

- All rubbish must be taken off the Island with you, so consider cans in lieu of bottles, transport food in containers rather than original packaging.

- Food scraps are either composted or fed to the chickens.
