One of the ‘Walk Victoria’s Icons’ long distance trails, the first section of the Grampians Peaks Trail offers a 36 kilometre, 3 day/2 night circuit walk departing from Halls Gap. Be inspired by the spectacular outlook of rugged mountain peaks from the top of Mount Rosea, panoramic views from the Pinnacle Lookout, ancient rock features of the Grand Canyon and the rich cultural history of this truly iconic Grampians landscape.

The first night will be spent 8.6 kilometres from Halls Gap at Bugiga, a distinctive, high-quality, sustainable hiker camp exclusive to the Grampians Peaks Trail. The second night will be spent at Borough Huts Campground, 13.8 kilometres from Bugiga. Walkers may choose to finish the walk at Borough Huts on day two and arrange for vehicle transport back to Halls Gap.*Groups (of up to 16) have the option of camping at the Stoney Creek group camp on the first night.

When completed, the Grampians Peaks Trail will offer a 13 day/12 night world-class multi day walk spanning the entire length of the Grampians National Park.

To maximise your experience and views along the walk, it is recommended that the walk be undertaken in an anti-clockwise direction.

The two campsites along the walk should be booked in the following order:

Night one – Bugiga hike-in camp
This distinctive campsite is the first of the dedicated hike-in camps designed exclusively for the Grampians Peaks Trail. Situated at the southern end of the Wonderland Range it offers spectacular views to Mount Rosea and Mount William.

The campsite accommodates up to 24 people on 12 camping platforms. There is a maximum of two people per platform and group sizes must not exceed 16 people.

Bugiga hike-in camp is located approximately 8.6 kilometres from the trailhead at Halls Gap.

Night two - Borough Huts
This site is a larger, general access campground that is available to users of the Grampians Peaks Trail until the second dedicated hike-in campsite is constructed. Each site can be booked for up to six people.
Borough Huts is located approximately 13.8 kilometres from Bugiga hike-in campsite and 14.2 kilometres from Halls Gap. It is also possible to access the Borough Huts campground by vehicle via the Grampians Tourist Road.

Group camping
The Stony Creek group camp is designated for groups and accommodates up to 16 people. It is located further along Stony Creek Road nestled beneath Mount Rosea, and is accessible by vehicle.

Overnight campsites
•Please use fuel stoves in all hiker campsites, campfires are not permitted.
•Always check for Total Fire Bans and fire conditions prior to your walk and carry a small radio or mobile phone.
•Please take your rubbish with you.

Be Safe Be Prepared
•Each member of the party should carry a topographic map and compass, or an appropriate navigation device.
•Check clothing, tents and other equipment prior to departure to ensure you are properly equipped.
•Ensure all group members carry at least 3-4 litres per person per day.
•All members should carry good quality, waterproof, outer shell protective layers.
•Hikers should have knowledge of first aid.
•Temperatures exceeding 40°C may be experienced during summer and autumn.
•Strong winds, low temperatures and heavy rain-squalls can be common and may reduce visibility.
•Register your hike at Brambuk and remember that mobile coverage is limited.
•Always check current conditions when you register your hike as storm events and bushfires can cause changes to conditions or cause temporary closures.
•Walking tracks may involve rock steps, uneven and slippery track surfaces, water crossings and rock hopping.
•There are steep cliffs throughout the Grampians, please supervise children at all times.
